ALL ABOUT LASER SURGERY

I would like to have LASIK, am I a candidate for LASIK?

Your doctor of optometry will take multiple measurements to see if you are a candidate for LASIK. You must be 18 years old and have a stable prescription to undergo LASIK surgery. One of our doctors will refer you to a laser center for a second consultation. At the laser center, one of their laser consultants will take more in-depth measurements of your eye to see if you have enough tissue available for the procedure to be done in a safe and effective manner. Together with the information our doctors send over your consultant will be able to let you know if you are a candidate. They will take care of booking your surgery date. Our doctors will take care of your post-operative follow-ups and are available to you should you have any questions.

How do you choose which laser center to send me to?

Our doctors have developed relationships over time with some of the best surgeons in the area. We send our patients to Laser centers that we would feel comfortable getting laser done ourselves or would refer to a family member.

Do I have to take time off work for LASIK?

Most patients have to take 1-2 days off work for the procedure, usually the day of the procedure and one day afterwards. By the morning after the surgery you should already be seeing well. The new technology allows for faster and more comfortable recovery.

I am not a candidate for LASIK, what now?

Although LASIK is the most common procedure to have done, there are other options as well. You may be a candidate for procedures such as PRK or RLE. Our doctors of optometry can discuss these options with you and what to expect.

What is bladeless LASIK and is it better for me?

Traditionally LASIK surgery was done by creating a flap on the front surface of your eye using a blade. Technology now allows surgeons to use a laser to create the flap instead. This allows for faster recovery, and less complications during surgery.
